The !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! shows my lament over the price jump of the last 5 years, which killed any prospects of actually getting one ; however, I should probably ask if anyone out there has first-hand knowledge if 6'-3" drivers can actually fit in a gt4. I’m guessing not comfortably.

This condition car would have fetched $2 5k six years ago. The ad mentions the important things about GT4's so I won’t say them here, but given the prices today, It’s out of my reach now for about five years . That is why I’m jonesing for a Porsche 931 today. Hopefully 931 prices stay where they’re at for another year or so until other projects get finished.

I like the 70-series tires of this era. It would be fun to wring out take this car for a drive, but I’d be really afraid of something breaking.

There’s a GTS going up for auction at B-J. It’ll be interesting to see what it goes for.

Vehicle prices are going nuts right now. For shits and giggles I looked up what old C10s are going for on CL (I have a ‘66 GMC). $2,500 for a rusted out shell. I bought mine running three or four years ago with a V8 swap and go fast bits for $3k. Now people are asking $15-20k for cleaned up examples. Insane.

That’s half the fun with old stuff. Break-Fix-Repeat.

These were the last best hope of normal dudes owning a 308, I dreamed of it too. The market is due for a correction, it’s arguably already in progress, but it’ll be interesting to see how these come out. Maybe consider Mondials too?

I watched a very similar dream slip through my fingers. I was watching 550/328 prices for years and made a plan when they were half the price as they sit today. I passed on a 328 for 38k. I still kick myself for that. The more I saved, the more prices went up.

But, they will hit a maximum price, so if you are diligent and patient, you should still be able to get one. Also, pricing on cars like this follow the economy. If your savings are solid when the next downturn comes, you might be able to get a sold deal.

Have you considered a 348? The market is at a little dip in the upswing. It doesn’t have the 70's look, but still telepathic manual steering, a gated dog-leg box, with slightly better ergonomics. My friend who is a thin 6'4" drove it without problem.

Possibly. I like pre-electrified/power-everything cars you can reach thing on and have potential to fix. If a 348 still has that removable firewall hole so belts and whatever can be reached then I’m all for that. We’ll see how things go and what I decide to move on in about 2 years. It’s nice to know theres a chance I’ll fit.

The engine comes out in the 348. A lot of people do this themselves and there are a lot of resources online. Or, budget $6500 every 5 years to do it at an indy shop. The first one will be more if the car was neglected, but all you have to do is have a plan.

Other than the belts, pretty much everything on the car can be DIY’d by your average semi handy owner. Lot’s of cross-referenced parts too. For example, I bought $25 crank sensors from a Kia and they work perfectly. I’m not trying to convert anyone, but they are worth a look if you want a raw and engaging driving experience.

Looking at 355's leap forward, semi-auto box, etc. I’d say the 348 and earlier with limited additional features would be the ticket and fit those goals.

I drove a 355 (6-speed) and 328 before I got the 348. The 355 was a let down. The steering didn’t have much feedback and it all felt a little disconnected. I never felt like I was one with the car. The 328 was too raw for me but the 348 took the good raw/direct elements of the 328 and refined them without watering down the experience.

Well, maybe with an old Chevy, but I’d argue not so much with an old Ferrari, engine-out tune-ups and all.

Haven’t shared any comments with you in a while. I hope you and yours enjoyed your holidays.

Yeah. There was a quad carb’d one for sale at at Barrett-Jackson. I imagine those would require some effort to get running nicely.

Had a nice relaxing holiday? How was yours?

Good to hear that. Downside to that is the NSX performance comparison. Why not NSX at those prices. Hmm.

To me, you can’t tell yourself you are buying this car for the performance. A new Mustang will be better in every measurable way. So personally, I do not think the NSX’s performance has anything to do with the decision. Even then, the 348 offers more power in similar weight package.

You buy a car like this because you are looking for a certain experience. To me, the 348 delivers that experience. No, I cannot drive it every day, but that is part of the reason why I like it so much. Every time I drive the car, it is an event. Everything about it just feels special. From the smell of the interior when you open the door, to the solid billet aluminum gas cap. While I haven’t driven an NSX, I just don’t have the same passion for that car. It was engineered, not designed, if you will. Plus, I’d rather look at this perfect steering wheel, while being cocooned in Italian leather, over this injection molded 90's Honda interior. This is purely my subjective thoughts, though. YMMV

I can’t get excited about Ferrari at all. Just such a snob deal and maintenance. No thank you.

Great holiday, thank you. Had all three of my adult daughters here at one time. Relaxed, went to see my wife’s sister for a couple of days down south, did some arts & crafts. Very relaxing.

back like 2006 i passed on a 912 for 9k. I should have just bought it and thrown it i a storage locker. Then after the finacial crisis there was a beautiful 65 c2 corvette marron with rare removeable hardtop , that was on sale for over 2 years. Again just out of reach. Then lastl y an 83 308 gts but just out of reach. .
